Helmut Lang
The Helmut Lang approach is anything but spectacular. The Austrian designer is usually described as a minimalist and with Jil Sander he was part of this particularly important trend in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His austere, pared-down style is intended to draw attention not to itself, but to the personality of the wearer. For Lang each garment must adapt to the client's lifestyle and wardrobe. The jeans that made him famous are the perfect symbol of the flexibility he brings to all his work.
The synthetic leather used for this suit signals the 1990s' taste for technologically innovative fabrics: in this case one that changes colour with the weather, becoming lighter as the temperature rises.
