Emanuel Ungaro, vinyl coat, 1969. Collection of Palais Galliera © L. Degrâces, P. Joffre / Galliera / Roger-Viollet
Son of an Italian tailor, Ungaro trained for ten years with Balenciaga, before founding his fashion house in 1965. His best-known models play with contrasting and graphic prints, applied to coats with rigorous cuts, which made him famous from the 1960s to the 1980s.
