• Coat: green overstitched cotton. Lining: printed silk muslin edged with scalloped silk muslin appliqués. Lining of the sleeves: green silk serge. Dress: black, yellow and red printed silk muslin, edged with scalloped muslin.

“Harmonize the handbag fastener with the jewel in the hat. The hats with the lining. The hair in the same tones as the dresses.” - Gazette du Bon Ton, 1927.

The 1920s saw the rise of sophisticated day and evening wear with matching accessories. Thus the lining of this Chanel coat is made of the same fabric as the dress. Delicate muslin cutouts in the shape of jagged leaves stand out in relief. This ensemble belonged to Anna Gould (1875–1961).
