Azzedine Alaïa
Published in Vogue Paris, Dépêche-Mode, Marie-Claire or Paris-Match, this dress, emblematic of Azzedine Alaïa's work, closes with a long zipper surrounding the bust from the right hip, extending to the right side and closing at the back of the neck. This locking system, used by the designer since 1981, is a double tribute: the first to the dress of her friend, the actress Arletty, in Marcel Carné's movie, Hôtel du Nord (1938), the second to the Taxi Dress (1932) by the American designer Charles James.
