For Azzedine Alaïa, technique and structure dominate the decoration. The dress, to enhance the woman, must be simple and obvious. The couturier learned this lesson from his friend the actress Arletty: "She often said she was "virgin of all decoration". This motivated me to remove jewellery and accessories from my collections in favour of naked clothing," he said in 2013.
