Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri
Appointed in 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri presents her first fashion show for Christian Dior in spring-summer 2017.
The Italian designer's third ready-to-wear collection for Spring/Summer 2018 presents a pair of loose leg jeans with an elephant's foot, worn with a printed sailor's top and a question: "Why have there been no great women artists? This sentence is not just decorative, she quotes the title of a major essay written in 1971 by feminist art historian Linda Nochlin (1931-2017).
Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first woman to be appointed artistic director of the Christian Dior fashion house since its creation in 1947, has already printed the phrase "We should all be feminists" on a T-shirt from her first fashion show.
For spring-summer 2018, she is distributing Nochlin's essay on each seat and inviting the granddaughter of the historian and Palais Galliera donor, Julia Trotta, to testify before journalists about her grandmother's work.
