Balenciaga
Settled in Paris since 1937, the Spanish-born designer Cristóbal Balenciaga is considered to be one of the undisputed masters of haute couture. He who revolutionized the cut and brought the shapes of his models to an almost abstract level is also virtuoso in the choice of materials.
This bodice and skirt set is made of shaped fabric woven with floral motifs in Lurex, a material composed of a thin sheet of aluminium lined on both sides with a transparent sheet of polyester. Then, this sophisticated fabric is printed with large coloured flowers on a black background. It proves the importance of weavers and their know-how, often at the origin of any masterpiece of 20th century haute couture.
