The year 2018 celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Vogue Paris Foundation, which reflects the strong engagement of Vogue Paris and the Palais Galliera in contemporary creation.
Palais Galliera wanted to honour Azzedine Alaïa through important acquisitions from 1982 to 2017, including the latest model in its latest haute couture collection, autumn-winter 2017. These sublime pieces join an already rich of the work of a great masterpieces of couture. Through this collection, his timeless heritage will continue to inspire and influence the upcoming creation.
Martin Margiela, who has so often sought inspiration in the collections of the Palais Galliera, is the other leading fashion designer of this fifth edition. Twenty-two pieces by Margiela, most of them exhibited in the ambitious retrospective presented at the museum in 2018, will be added to the museum's collection, the most comprehensive in the world on his work and a faithful expression of this iconoclast creator's radical contribution.
Thanks to this fifth Vogue dinner, we were also able to acquire new works by great couturiers such as Cristóbal Balenciaga or Madame Grès, or Vivienne Westwood, an essential heritage of 20th century fashion.
Palais Galliera thanks all the fashion houses that give the museum generous and exceptional support every year.
It is thanks to this initiative that the museum is now presenting itself as a foundation of contemporary fashion, a leading institution in the future history of 21st century fashion.
