Art Goût Beauté / Voici la mode Art Goût Beauté

1920 to 1934

This luxury, monthly magazine, launched in 1920 and, at the time, entitled "Les succès d’Art Goût Bon Ton", changed its name to "Art Goût Beauté" in October 1921 by borrowing the initials of its founders Albert Godde Bedin et Cie. The latter, renowned silk manufacturers from Lyon, used the magazine to promote their fabrics and French fashion in general. The magazine was intended for a readership of affluent women who could dress in haute couture and for professional buyers. As the Artistic Director, Henri Rouit wished to showcase the most exquisite creations imagined by leading Parisian couturiers, such as Beer, Lanvin, Lelong, Patou, Poiret, Worth, etc., he called on the greatest illustrators of the times like Georges Lepape, Georges Barbier, Paul Iribe… Each issue was enhanced with advertisements and stencil-coloured illustrations, making this a highly-sought-after, premium-quality magazine. Some of these were affixed to the document or onto removable cardboard.  The fashion section was written by Lucie Neumeyer-Hirigoyen and Rosine. The society events and Parisian life sections were compiled by Henri Clouzot (conservator of the Galliera Museum) and Eric Bagge (architect and designer). At the beginning of the 1930s, photos, which were often unsigned, were added to the issues. In 1933, the magazine changed its name once again to "Voici la Mode Art Goût Beauté" and was henceforth only illustrated with black and white drawings.
