CINEMA FESTIVAL, THE WORLD OF RICK OWENS ON SCREEN

From September 4 to 6, the Palais Galliera's film festival returns with a programme made by Rick Owens to celebrate his world.

For the fourth year running, the Palais Galliera is transformed into an open-air cinema to delight fashion and movie fans.

PROGRAMME

For three days, the museum will show a selection of emblematic films dear to designer Rick Owens: Queendom, a documentary on the Russian queer artist Gena Marvin; The Black Cat, a 1930s hollywood horror movie and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a musical comedy horror that celebrates 1970s queer culture.

Each screening will take place outdoors, in the museum's main courtyard, and will be introduced by a specialist. Drinks and popcorn will also be available.

DAY 1 - THURSDAY 4 SEPTEMBER

Queendom (2025)

Duration: 1h38
Documentary realized by Agniia Galdanova with Gena Marvin

In Russia, 21-year-old queer artist Gena Marvin stages performances that seem to come straight from another planet, disturbing the anti-LGBTQIA+ campaigns led by Vladimir Putin for years. In this increasingly repressive context, their radical aesthetic becomes political, blurring the boundaries between identity, art and activism.

DAY 2 - FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER

The Black Cat (1934)

Duration: 1h05
Horror movie realized by Edgar G. Ulmer with Boris Karloff, Béla Lugosi, based on a novel by Edgar Allan Poe

Recently married, Joan and Peter set off on their honeymoon to Hungary. On their way, they meet Vitus Verdegast, a doctor rescued from a prison camp in Russia, who wants to meet an old friend. After a few misadventures, the couple is forced to stop at the castle of Verdegast's friend, Hjalmar Poelzig. His immense residence is particularly impressive. Poelzig, a famous architect, lives surrounded by black cats and becomes increasingly disturbing...

THE BLACK AND WHITE SETTING IS REMARKABLE FOR WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN RADICAL MODERNISM AT THE TIME, AND THE STORYLINE MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE INSPIRATION FOR THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

DAY 3 - SATURDAY 6 SEPTEMBER

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Duration: 1h40
Musical comedy horror realized by Jim Sharman with Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, based on a musical comedy by Richard O'Brien
© The Walt Disney Company, Droits réservés

On a stormy night, the car of Janet and Brad, a young engaged couple, breaks down. Forced to take shelter in the mysterious castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, they meet its eccentric inhabitants, who engage in some very strange experiments…

THIS 1970S MUSICAL, POSSIBLY BASED ON THE 1934 MOVIE, THE BLACK CAT WAS A TURNING POINT IN THE HISTORY OF QUEER VISIBILITY. ITS GLITTER ROCK FLAMBOYANCE WAS A LIFE RAFT FOR SMALL-TOWN QUEER KIDS EVERYWHERE.
